Become a Speaker at TEDxWibsey

These selection criteria reflect TED’s emphasis on ideas worth spreading, authenticity, and diversity of thought.

Eligibility
  • Expertise in subject area — Speakers must demonstrate credible experience, research, or professional practice in the field they propose to speak on.
  • Local connection — Should live in Wibsey, Bradford, or surrounding areas, or have a meaningful connection (work, study, community involvement).
  • Original idea — Talks must present a unique perspective, insight, or innovation — not a product pitch or personal promotion.
  • Non‑commercial focus — Talks cannot promote businesses, services, or political agendas.
  • Clarity and storytelling — Speakers should communicate ideas clearly, engagingly, and within the TEDxWibsey time limit (typically 5–10 minutes).
  • Inclusivity and balance — Selection will ensure diversity in gender, age, discipline, and worldview.
  • Community impact — Preference for ideas that contribute positively to Bradford’s social, cultural, or economic development.
  • Ethical alignment — Speakers must align with TED’s values of curiosity, respect, and factual integrity.

Acceptance Criteria

To ensure transparency and quality, the process will be conducted jointly by the TEDxWibsey organizing team and independent experts from relevant fields.

  1. Initial screening — Review of submitted forms for eligibility and relevance to the theme.

  2. Expert review — Independent reviewers assess topic originality, clarity, and potential impact.

  3. Shortlisting — Balanced representation across disciplines and demographics.

  4. Interview or pitch — Selected applicants may be invited to discuss their idea briefly.

  5. Final selection — Confirmed speakers receive coaching and guidance to refine their talk for stage delivery.

Disclaimer

TEDxWibsey is committed to maintaining a fair, transparent, and balanced speaker selection process. While preference may be given to individuals who live in Wibsey, Bradford, or have a meaningful connection to the area, final speaker selection will be based primarily on the strength, originality, and relevance of the proposed idea in alignment with the event theme — “How Ideas Shape Our Future.”

The selection panel, which includes independent experts and members of the organizing team, will exercise professional discretion to ensure a diverse and balanced lineup across disciplines, perspectives, and backgrounds. Selection decisions will consider topic balance, audience relevance, and overall event coherence rather than geographic location alone.

TEDxWibsey reserves the right to select speakers whose ideas best represent the spirit of TED — ideas worth spreading — and to ensure that the event reflects both local identity and global relevance.
