Wibsey is one of Bradford’s oldest and most recognisable village communities, historically recorded as “Wibsey‑cum‑Horton.” Located approximately 1.5 miles south‑west of Bradford city centre, it has maintained a strong village identity for centuries despite being part of the wider metropolitan district. Its name is believed to derive from Old English, referencing a settlement near a hill or ridge — a fitting description of its elevated position overlooking parts of Bradford.
Over time, Wibsey has grown into a vibrant residential and commercial area with its own high street, schools, community organisations, and longstanding cultural traditions. The village’s character is shaped by its close‑knit community, independent shops, and the sense of continuity that comes from generations of families calling Wibsey home.
